Eastern Civic Amenity Centre
Structural and Civil Engineering design on the new recycling facility for the east of the Isle of Man.
Providing a single story industrial unit with office and welfare facilities along with large open plan storage areas. Access for the public and separate working areas were provided, including high level gantries to load refuse skips.
The building is designed as a portal framed structure, using Tekla Portal Frame Designer; a design suite that uses elastic and plastic analysis of the structure to provide the most economic solutions available.
Hardstandings are designed for heavy industrial traffic, with a large retaining wall to the skip bays designed to take loads up to 20kN /m² at the back of the wall. Drainage of the building and hardstanding is via attenuation crates within the soft landscaping and into the nearby watercourse.
